My Makes • February 2025
This month, I’m spending most of my time designing and writing my next series of modern quilt patterns. If you took my monthly poll in January and/or caught my Instagram poll highlight, you saw a BIG hint to what I’m up to. I’ll share more in March! That said, I did fit in some sewing because otherwise I might lose my mind. :)
QUILTED iPAD PRO CASE
I recently traded in a few old apple products I wasn’t using anymore to justify buying the 13” iPad Pro. Being real though … the trade-ins basically covered the Apple Pencil and some of the tax but in quilt-girl math I was getting a real discount LOL. Anyway, I had some gorgeous Japanese fabric leftover from making the Sandhill Sling by Noodlehead (last pic) so I whipped up a super cushion-y case for my new, shiny iPad. 10/10 recommend this pattern, fabric, and hardware shop!
Pattern: Preston Laptop Case by Sotak Handmade — I made the Medium size and left off the handles.
Fabric: Knap Schoolyard Flower by Kokka Fabric (the inside was matching green canvas from my stash)
Hardware: Zipper by the Yard from Sullivan’s Trim in Army Bronze (with Donut Pull in Bronze)
Knitted blooms IS FINISHED!!
This one has really special meaning for me and I love it so much! After the devastation of Hurricane Helene, I needed a new quilt project – something to make, just for me, to quiet my mind, and ease my heart. At the same time, I was experiencing so much joy as I witnessed people supporting each other in every corner of our community. That inspired me to create something beautiful, made entirely with the incredible products of small, local businesses. Here’s to the wildly creative women of Western North Carolina!
Pattern: Knitted Blooms by Brittany of Lo & Behold Stitchery (Black Mountain, NC)
Fabric: Hand-dyed Essex Linen by Kelly of Kye & Hardy (Asheville, NC)
Longarm Quilting: Megan of Blue Ridge Quilt Co. using the Knit 1, Purl 2 Panto from OESD (Woodfin, NC)
Pink Tulips in Photo: Carolina Flowers owned and operated by Emily (Marshall, NC)
Baby QUILT FOR BABY SADIE
I’m getting close to finishing the hand-quilting on this beauty! I can’t wait to add the binding and finally get this to sweet baby Sadie, my bestie’s new daughter. I love, love, love hand-quilting because I can do it in front of the TV or enjoy some quiet time away from my machine with a cup of tea. :)
I chose a 45 degree cross hatch pattern because I like low density and maximum coziness. I wanted the quilting to elevate the design elements and let the background be just that. That’s why I chose the deeper pink Perle Cotton for the white shapes, white for the darkest elements, and a matching thread color for the background fabric.
Pattern: Riley’s Star by the lovely Erin at Hexenhaus
Quilt Top Fabric: Art Gallery Fabrics Pure Solids — Sweet Fig, Dried Roses, Snow
Backing Fabric: Mayfair Promenade Plum MAF-79202 by Amy Sinibaldi for Art Gallery Fabrics
Quilting Thread: DMC Perle Cotton Size 8 — B5200 Snow White, 3688 Medium Mauve, 778 Light Antique Mauve
Thanks for being here. Happy Making! — Melinda
