Introducing: Land of the sky collection
The Land of the Sky collection includes 4 beginner-friendly patterns. Each design showcases a single star-shaped block made modern with the addition of harmonizing elements and the use of negative space. The patterns feature large blocks and come together quickly. While striking in solids, they are also great for showcasing prints.
The collection gets its name from where I live—Asheville, NC. Frances Tiernan, published "The Land of the Sky" in 1876. The novel's title became synonymous with the scenic beauty of western North Carolina, particularly the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. Each pattern in the collection bears the name of a local high elevation mountain peak, perfect for stargazing.
All cover quilts are made with Art Gallery Pure Solids (Nova, Cerulean, Honeymoon, Snow, and Hemlock (Max Patch only). Bundles for all patterns in various sizes available from Megan at Blue Ridge Quilt Co.

BLACK BALSAM
Skill Level: Confident Beginner
Black Balsam is inspired by pinwheels and windmills, reminiscent of the cotton feed sack quilts of the 1800’s. This is a beginner-friendly pattern created using half-square triangles, squares, and an easy-to-make method for split quarter-square triangles that make up the pinwheels.
Black Balsam Knob, near Milepost 420 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is a popular spot due to its easy trail hike to a grassy bald summit with spectacular views. It’s no wonder campers often pop up small tents, surrounded by wilderness and the promise of a stunning show of stars.
The pattern comes in 5 sizes: Baby, Crib, Throw, Twin, and Twin XL (perfect for dorm rooms!).
